In the natural environment, cacti and succulents grow on very dry, sandy and infertile soils, which are poor in humus and contain a large admixture of sand, stones or gravel. The water even flows through such a substrate without remaining in the pot. Therefore, the substrate for cacti and succulents must have a loose structure and a high content of skeletal elements, i.e. expanded clay, sand and gravel, which ensure proper drainage and high permeability. As a substrate for cacti and succulents, a mixture of peat / soil with sand, perlite, gravel will be perfect. The cactus soil used in the mix should have a slightly acidic or neutral pH (between 5.7-6.8 pH). For example, deacidified peat or already prepared, ready soil for cacti will work well.
