The 80 Watt ‘Mini Mercury Vapour’ is a useful option for smaller vivaria. UVB and a balanced UVA similar to wild exposure at lower fitting heights and also produce a good amount of heat.

The 100 and 160 Watt is dedicated for bigger cages.

The new and improved Arcadia '2nd generation' D3 UV 80w Basking Lamp. This high performance, multifunctional lamp has several benefits in one. The single lamp provides UVB, UVA visible light and heat so there is no need for a separate UV and heat source.

Aiding the synthesis of vitamin D3 and helping to prevent or reverse metabolic bone disease with the UVA increasing feeding, mating, and other natural behaviours. These are all vital to the normal development and health of basking reptiles such as tortoises. A large UVB projection area provides a wider beneficial area for basking. Lasts for up to 6,000 working hours.

How to use

MVL mercury lamps have built-in ballasts and should always be used in E27 ceramic / porcelain sockets. The standard size of Arcadia mercury-steam lamps has a diameter of 11.5 cm - for comparison, the MVL 80W MINI lamp has a diameter of 9.5 cm. The larger glass housing offers more space for internal parts and better heat dissipation. The larger glass housing also allows for better diffusion of light, creating a larger soak area.

The average life of these bulbs is 8 to 12 months with normal use (the 80W MINI version guarantees 6-8 months of operation). We do not recommend using lamps with thermostats because frequent switching on and off of the lamp leads to a rapid reduction in lamp life.

Additionally, please note that due to the characteristics of the lamp - mercury bulbs must be mounted vertically downwards. Mounting at an angle shortens their service life
