Substrate for the Tree Snake

Substrate for the Tree Snake

In this category you will find substrates and specialized substrates for the arboreal snake. The most popular species of arboreal snakes found among terrariums are mostly snakes that like a moist terrarium, so it is good to choose well-absorbing substrates and remember about proper ventilation in this type of terrariums so that the substrate does not start to mold.

What Substrate for Arboreal Snake ?

As a substrate for the Tree Snake, Coconut chips or coconut peat will be perfect, as they look extremely aesthetic, absorb and retain moisture well. You can also use a bioactive substrate and sphagnum moss. Of course, you should remember about proper humidification in the terrarium, adapted to our species.

It is also worth using underfloor heating, which supports the evaporation of water from the moist substrate, a mixture of coconut chips with sand works well here, which conducts heat well and supports the evaporation of water from the coconut fiber, thanks to which the snake practically does not go down to the ground.

You can also use a paper towel to line the bottom of the terrarium.

Substrate for Tree Snake in Terrarium with Live Plants

Tree snakes usually rarely descend to the ground, they feel best among leaves and branches. If we know that our snake rather avoids going down to the ground and will not destroy the decorations in the terrarium, you can consider planting the terrarium with live plants. Live plants significantly affect the proper maintenance of humidity in the terrarium. Of course, the plants and the substrate must like the conditions that our snake needs. We can successfully grow epipremnum or scindapsus in a moist terrarium. A mixture of the previously mentioned substrates, i.e. coconut chips and a bioactive substrate, will work very well as a substrate.
