In a tropical terrarium with high humidity between 70-90%, choose well-absorbent substrates, such as coconut fiber, which looks very aesthetic, binds feces, and allows digging. Remember about proper ventilation in this type of terrariums so that the substrate does not start to mold.
For arboreal species or species that spend most of their time above the ground, coconut fiber, peat, bioactive substrate, sphagnum moss or even mixtures of these few substrates. It is also worth using underfloor heating, which supports the evaporation of water from the moist substrate, a mixture of coconut chips with sand works well here, which conducts heat well and supports the evaporation of water from the coconut fiber, thanks to which the snake practically does not go down to the ground. It is an ideal substrate for the Green Tree Python (Morelia Viridis) and for the carpet python (morelia spilota).
For terrestrial pythons, a 2:1 mix of coconut fiber with peat or the coconut substrate alone, a mixture of sand with peat, sphagnum moss will work. It will be an ideal substrate for a Indian Python (Python Molurus) or Blood python (Python Curtus).

The best solution is a substrate containing coconut fibre, because coconut perfectly absorbs and retains moisture, binds feces and looks aesthetically pleasing. A homogeneous substrate made of washed coconut chips, coconut peat or a mixture of coconut fiber and peat in a 2:1 ratio is very popular.
The most popular, however, is lignocel or aspen substrate, which are very economical, comfortable and sterile. However, maintaining the right level of humidity in a terrarium with lignocel is a bit more difficult, plus we achieve a less natural visual effect in the tank. Nevertheless, it is also a good solution.
Such a substrate for the Ball python (Python Regius) will also work as a substrate for the reticulated python (Python Reticulatus) , rock python (Python Sebae) and other pythons living in similar conditions.
For a terrarium with a humidity of approx. 30-40%, where only a bowl of water is often used as a source of steam, lignocel, a mixture of sand with gravel or peat, or a mixture of sand with coconut chips or pine bark will be perfect. It will be an ideal substrate for the Olive Python (Liasis Olivaceus), Angola Python (Python Anchietae), Centralian Python (Morelia Bredli) or Blackhead python (Aspidites Melanocephalus).
