In this category you will find safe, specialized terrarium substrate for Ball Python (Python Regius). When choosing the right substrate, we should be guided by the best possible representation of the natural conditions of our species. These snakes need a semi-humid terrarium, approx. 50-55% humidity, so the substrate for Python Regius should be sufficiently absorbent, as it requires daily sprinkling in the tank.
The best solution is a substrate containing coconut fibre, because coconut perfectly absorbs and retains moisture, binds feces and looks aesthetically pleasing. A homogeneous substrate made of washed coconut chips, coconut peat or a mixture of coconut fiber and appropriate peat in a 2:1 ratio is very popular. The choice of coconut chips, however, will limit the sticking of the substrate to the food due to the highest gradation among the coconut substrates.
The most popular, however, is lignocel or aspen substrate, which are very economical, comfortable and sterile. However, maintaining the right level of humidity in a terrarium with lignocel is a bit more difficult, plus we achieve a less natural visual effect in the tank. Nevertheless, it is also a good solution.
Such a substrate for the Ball python (Python Regius) will also work as a substrate for the reticulated python (Python Reticulatus), rock python (Python Sebae) and other pythons living in similar conditions.

For Python Regius it is good to keep the humidity at 50-55%, which will ensure optimal breeding conditions. The use of a properly absorbent substrate significantly affects the maintenance of humidity in the terrarium by gently sprinkling the terrarium with lukewarm water (it is recommended to spray it 1-2 times a day). However, it should be noted that the substrate and the snake's surroundings should not be only moist, not wet, because too much saturation of the terrarium elements favors the development of infection. Just before the molt, you can spray the inside of the hideout where the snake stays and thus ensure trouble-free molting.
