Substrate for Bearded Dragon

Substrate for Bearded Dragon

In the category we have placed specialized substrates for Dragons, you will find here special mixtures of sand, clay, clay and other soils. You will choose a substrate tailored to the needs of bearded dragons, lizards from the desert biotope, a substrate for the Black-soil Bearded Dragon.

What Substrate for Agama?

The substrate is designed to fulfill many functions and be safe for our reptile, in the case of Agam the latter aspect is particularly important. These lizards have a tendency to eat on the substrate, which may result in damage or clogging of the digestive system.

Therefore, especially in the case of novice breeders, it is worth focusing on a strict substrate, such as a mixture of clay and sand (check the substrate for Agama with Clay available in our offer) or one that can be digested by the lizard to some extent (e.g. cellulose substrate) . You can also use corn pellets, which can lead to blockage if eaten in large quantities.

Specialist terrarium sand looks extremely aesthetic and natural. However, loose sand for agama is recommended for more experienced breeders who are experienced in observing the reptile's behavior and will notice any irregularities. When using sand in terrarium, it is recommended to separate the area for eating a meal, e.g. on a larger flat stone, tile or bowl. In our offer you will find yellow and red terrarium sand. You can read more about the substrate here, sand alone or sand with clay for Agama.

It is absolutely necessary to avoid substrates that are hard/sharp, e.g. wood, coconut chips, bark.

What Substrate for the Black-soil Bearded Dragon (Pogona Henrylawsonii)?

Fine sand is very popular as a substrate for Dumpy dragons. It is also recommended to use a mixture of sand and calcium carbonate, which, if ingested, will provide the reptile with calcium by dissolving safely. Such a mixture binds impurities well, making it easier to keep the terrarium clean. Remember, however, that calcium in excess can also harm the reptile, watch the lizard to make sure it does not eat too much substrate. When using sand, it is recommended to separate the area for eating a meal, e.g. on a larger flat stone, tile or bowl.

100% Natural Desert Substrate

All substrates are carefully selected, regardless of the manufacturer. However, many producers also choose packaging of natural origin, eg Habistat substrate. We recommend that you see their offer for other reptiles such as Turtles and Geckos.
